Three games of Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament came to a close today, 30th January 2020.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia

The game was played at Nalanda grounds where they won the toss and opted to field first. The Thomians were undone for 235 runs in their first innings. Gavin Boteju was the star of the innings with 69 runs to his name. Next came Umayanga Suwaris, who struck 46 runs. Left-arm spinner Chamodya Rajapakshe was the pick of the bowling as he picked 4 wickets for 57 runs. 

Nalanda skipper Avishka Perera led that attack for Nalanda as the explosive right-handed opener smashed 104 runs. No.3 batsman Rashan Dissanayake scored a vital 67 runs. Thevin Eeriyagama, Yasiru Rodrigo and Dilmin Rathnayake all bagged 2 wickets each for St. Thomas’.

The boys from Mount Lavinia came out during the second-innings to uphold their pride. They batted out the rest of the game scoring 158 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Gavin Boteju was yet again the top-scorer with an unbeaten 62 runs.

Royal miss out an outright win by a whisker

Two matches of Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2019/20 came to a close today, 28th January 2020.

St. Thomas’ College, Matara vs Wesley College, Colombo

The hosting Matara school dominated at their adopted home, Uyanwatte stadium. Winning the toss and leaving the visitors to bat first, St. Thomas College got rid of the Wesleites for 212 runs. Sahil Dias was the top-scorer with 56 runs to his name while Sachira Rashmika stole the limelight with wrecking 7 wickets for 62 runs. 

Sachira’s hunt for glory was not over yet as he came back with a brilliant knock of 78 runs. Hirantha Lakshan (58) and Harindu Jayasekara (56) made half-centuries to give their schools a huge leap. Thomians ended the innings at 315 runs. They sealed points for the first-innings lead and the game ended in a draw after seeing 19 more overs for the formality

St. Servatius’ College, Matara vs St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy

The two group ‘C’ teams locked horns at the Welegedara Stadium in Kurunegala. St. Servatius’ College skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. The Sri Lanka U19 representative, Chihan Kalindu led by examples with a well-made 68 runs to his name. He got the assistance of Madushan de Silva (53) and Chethaka Nilanduwa (51) who made useful half-centuries. Shashika Basnayake was the main wrecker with the ball with figures of 5 for 89. 

St. Sylvester’s College continued their poor run with the batting. Maleesha Silva top-scored for the Kandy school with a half-century while Damindu Sankalpa topped the bowling card with 4 wickets for 43 runs. Madushan de Silva and Kokum Induma picked up 3 wickets each to assist Sankalpa in the assault. 

Following on, the boys from Kandy were at 83 for 6 after the match.
