Avishka Perera’s blazing 169 puts Nalanda on top

A sensational knock by Avishka Perera took Nalanda over 300-runs against Dharmasoka College while Isipathana-Kingswood traditional encounter came to an end today, 30th January. St. Anne’s College suffered a first-innings defeat against Ananda College.

Nalanda College vs Dharmasoka College

The Nalandians are hosting Dharmasoka College in a group B fixture. Opting to bat first, the home team recorded a mammoth 329 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, thanks to Avishka Perera and the skipper Lakshitha Rasanjana. Avishka Perera brought up his maiden ton of the season in style. He stroked the bowlers to all parts of the grounds on his way to 169 runs. Lakshitha played the anchor role and brought his 4th hundred of the season with 111 runs. Kavindu Nadeeshan was the only bowler to shine picking up 4 wickets to his merit.

Dharmasoka College was bowled out for just 92 runs in an embarrassing fashion. Aroshana de Silva top-scored as always. He scored a fighting 54 runs while Lakshitha stood out with the ball too picking up 5 wickets for just 18 runs.

The follow-on was enforced and Dharmasoka College was at 59 runs for the loss of 3 wickets by the close of play.

Ananda College vs St. Anne’s College

The visiting St. Anne’s captain won the toss and invited Ananda College to bat first in their own backyard. Opener, Kanishka Ranthilakage put up an elegant knock as he scored 99 runs. Ananda College batsmen accumulated 254 runs for their first innings. Left-armer Pasindu Thennakoon was the pick of the bowling with a five-fer to his name.

St. Anne’s College managed only a 165 runs in their first-innings. Batting performances were not up to the mark from the Annites as they struggled against the  off-spin of Janidu Jayawardena. Janidu picked up 5 wickets for 32 runs while the top-score was the 31 made by Lasith Warnakulasooriya.

Kanishka lead the batting once again for Ananda as they made a quick 107 runs in just 19 overs in their second-innings and declared the innings. Kanishka was unfortunate once again as he missed out on a fifty this time by 2 runs. It was yet again Pasindu Thennakoon who stood out for St. Anne’s as he picked up 3 wickets for 47 runs.

Rishitha Perera held the innings together for the Annites in the second-innings as he remained unbeaten on 51 runs. St. Anne’s College scored 76 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the last session of the game and saved themselves from an outright defeat.

Isipathana College vs Kingswood College

It was a batsman’s game at Pallekale as Kingswood College won the toss and batted first on a track that seemed a batting paradise. They batted out the entire day-one and scored 235 runs. Duminda Damsika top-scored with 88 runs for Kingswood while the gusty seamer, Kaliq Amath picked up a five-fer for Isipathana College.

Former skipper, Leshan Amarasinghe topped the batting chart for Isipathana as he scored 72 runs. Ashen Gunewardena also contributed with a half-century to the team while Devinda Dissanayake was the pick of the bowling for Kingswood College.

Isipathana College made 262 runs in 90.2 overs as the game came to a tame-draw.
