Two pre-quarter final playoffs of the Singer U19 Division I L/O Cricket Tournament, along with a few traditional encounters, were worked off today.
St. Anne’s College made up for their pre-quarter final loss against St. Joseph’s College in the 2-day tournament, with a 51-run win over Wesley College in their first knockout game of the 50-over tournament. Vice-captain Lasith Warnakulasooriya and Captain Kavindu Ranasinghe starred for them with bat and ball respectively in their home ground in Kurunegala.
Sri Lanka U19 cap Chamindu Wijesinghe steered Nalanda College to a comfortable 5-wicket win over St. Aloysius’ College in the other pre-quarter final playoff played today. Nalanda playing as hosts restricted the visitors for a modest 173 before they chased down the target in 35.2 overs. Pacer Jithesh Wasala and left-arm spinner Chamodya Rajapaksha bagged 3 wickets each.
