Devapathiraja College, Rathgama and Gurukula College, Kelaniya ended their tournament game in a draw while two other games of the Singer U19 Division One Cricket tournament got underway today, 27th December.

The game was played at the Galle International Stadium, where the visiting Gurukula College won the toss and elected to field first. Devapathiraja College scored 227 runs in their first-innings. Right-handed batsman Thisara Dilshan hit 70 runs to top the batting chart while the off-spinner Rashmika Mewan picked up 3 scalps for just 04 runs.

Gurukula College replied with a below par 116 runs in their first-innings which pushed them to a follow-on. Gurukula batsmen were more composed in the second-innings than the first as they were at 171 for 6 by the end of the game. Kemira Nayanatharu top-scored with 72 runs while Sudeera Weerarathne was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/19

Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs Moratu Maha Vidyalaya

Thomas’ College skipper, Sithara Hapuhinna won the toss and elected to bat first in a low-scoring encounter at the Moratu Maha Vidyalaya grounds. The Thomians managed only 147 runs in the first-innings with the top-score being the skipper’s 26 runs. The left-armer Eran Hansamal was the top wicket-taker with a fifer to his name.

In reply, the hosts looked inadequate with the bat as they were bundled off for just 57 runs. Delon Peiris, Dilmin Rathnayake and Shannon Fernando bowled exceptionally well as the trio picked up 3 wickets each for just 15 runs altogether.

The visitors were struggling in their second-innings too as they were at 30 for 6 by stumps. 26 wickets fell on day-one, the game will resume tomorrow for day-two.
