The traditional encounter between St. Anthony’s College and St. Sylvester’s College commenced today at Kandy. 

Gihan Ebert, the Skipper of St. Anthony’s College won the toss and chose to bat first on a batting friendly surface at the St. Anthony’s College Grounds. However, the Antonians got off to a shaky start, losing the first 4 wickets for just 66 runs by the 18th over.

Mohomed Kamil and Anjala Bandara rescued the innings by building a mammoth 220-run partnership for the fifth wicket, as St. Anthony’s College posted a solid 385 on the board for their first innings.

Bandara top-scored with 128 runs off 197 balls with 14 fours and a six, while Kamil made 123 runs off 180 balls with 15 fours and a six. The left-arm spinner Shashika Gihan was the pick of bowler for St. Sylvester’s as he bagged 3 wickets for 82 runs. The match will continue tomorrow for day two.
