Two matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today at Moratuwa and Colombo. Pawantha Weerasinghe (226) and Pavan Rathnayake (137) put Mahanama College in a strong position on day one against Maliyadeva College.

The Group B encounter between Dharmapala College and Prince of Wales College ended in a draw today at Prince of Wales College Grounds in Moratuwa. The hosts won the first innings points as they showed a better batting display. After being 143 runs for 6 wickets at overnight, the Cambrians finished their first innings today adding another 74 runs for the last 4 wickets.
Pasindu Pathum top-scored with a knock of 48 runs while Omesh Mendis (38) and Kavinda De Mel (37) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat for the hosts. Lakshitha Purasinghe was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he grabbed 3 wickets for 54 runs.

The visitors began their second innings 48 runs behind and showed a better batting display this time as they made 217 runs for 5 wickets at the close of play one – day two. N N Madushanka who made 90 runs in the first innings bettered his batting effort scoring an unbeaten century in the second innings. Also, Nadeesha Bandara (41) and Vihanga Gunarathne (34) contributed with the bat for the visitors.

The Group C encounter between Mahanama College and Maliyadeva College commenced today at Bloomfield Grounds in Colombo. The Mahanama College skipper won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first on a batting-friendly surface. They piled on a huge score on the board thanks to the double century made by Pawantha Weerasinghe (226) and the century made by Pavan Rathnayake (137).
Trinity wins second consecutive Mahela-Sanga Challenge Trophy
This is Pavan Rathnayake’s second consecutive century made within 3 days as he just stroked a century against Isipathana College on Friday (24th January). Hasindu Ruwanpura was the only standout bowler for Maliyadeva College as he picked up 3 scalps for 129 runs. In reply, Malyadeva College posted 20 runs for 1 wicket at the close of play on day one.
