Four Pre-Quarter Finals of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today across the island. Prince of Wales College managed to secure a place in the Quarter Finals as they defeated a strong Royal College outfit in a Pre-Quarter Final encounter, which worked off today at Colombo.

Prince of Wales College qualified to the Quarter Finals as they managed to take first innings points against Royal College in the Pre-Quarter Final, which worked off today at Royal College Grounds in Colombo. After being 108 runs for 5 wickets overnight, the visitors managed to go past the first innings score of Royal College, posting 311 runs on the board.
St. Joseph’s defeat Ananda, St. Thomas’ & St. Anthony’s reach Quarter Finals
In-form right-handed strokemaker Kavinda De Mel was the star of the day for the Cambrians as he stroked a brilliant 135 runs. Gishan Balasooriya was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he picked up a match bag of 5 wickets for 79 runs. In addition to this, Thevindu Senavirathna and Lahiru Madushanka picked up 2 wickets each.

Trinity College, Kandy vs De Mazenod College, Kandana
The Pre-Quarter Final between Trinity College and De Mazenod College commenced today at Trinity College Grounds in Kandy. After winning the toss, Trinity College skipper Ruvin Peiris chose to bat first. However things did not go as planned, as they made only 206 runs in 56.2 overs.
Shevon and Sheran blasts tons vs Ananda
Ranuda Somarathna (66) and Shane Gunathilake (65) were the chief contributors with the bat for the hosts as they made half-tons. Senash Fernando and Asitha Silva bowled extremely well for De Mazenod and managed to share 7 wickets among them. In reply, the visitors also struggled with the bat as they made 70 runs for 3 wickets at the close of play on day one. Uvindu Wimaladarma picked up all three wickets fell in the visitors’ innings.

The Pre-Quarter Final between S. Thomas’ College and Gurukula College commenced today at S. Thomas’ College Grounds in Mount Lavinia. After winning the toss, the visiting skipper asked the hosts to take the first lease of the wicket.
The Thomians, playing on familiar turf, managed to post a solid 290 runs for 8 wickets at stumps on day one. The left-handed strokemaker Shalin De Mel top scored with a classy 71 runs, while another left-hander Dilmin Rathnayake chipped in with 48 runs. Rishitha Sankalpa and Thushara Madushan picked up 2 wickets each for the visitors.

The Pre-Quarter Final between St. Sebastian’s College and Nalanda College commenced today at Nalanda College Grounds in Colombo. After being put into bat first by Nalanda skipper Avishka Perera, the visitors posted 225 runs in 70 overs.
Matara Thomians win first 50-over clash; Ahan’s century lifts Royal
Dunith Jayathunga (59) and Sukitha Prasanna (48) were the major contributors with the bat for the lads from Moratuwa. The Sri Lanka U19 capped leg-spinner Raveen De Silva used all his experience and dismissed 5 scalps of the opposition. Off-spinner Mahima Weerakoon gave him good support at the other end, picking up 3 wickets for just 15 runs.
In reply, the hosts’ opening pair Avishka Perera and Ravindu De Silva got them off to a great as they managed to put on a 98-run unbeaten partnership in 19 overs. The skipper Perera stroked 65 runs, while Ravindu De Silva remained unbeaten on 33 runs.
