St. Joseph Vaz College and Lumbini College ended their tournament fixture in a draw at the Air Force grounds in Katunayake today, 22nd November.

Being put to bat first by Lumbini College, the boys from Wennappuwa scored 229 runs, thanks to their skipper, Nipun Dhananjaya. Dhananjaya scored a crafty 93 runs while the rest of the team just fell apart. The 15-year-old left arm spinner, Yasiru Yugath was the pick of the bowling for Lumbini with 6 wickets in the first-innings.

In reply, Lumbini College managed 151 runs for their first-innings. The Lumbini batsmen let things slip easily as highly rated batsmen like Thashika Nirmal also departed early on. Nipun Dhananjaya shone with the ball too as the right-arm off-spinner bagged 3 wickets for 51 runs to top the bowling charts.

St. Joseph Vaz saw a steep fall in the game as they were undone for 73 runs in the 2nd innings. It was a rare instance where Dhnanajaya failed with the bat for the boys from Wennapuwa.

Yet, Dhananjaya proved that he could not be kept out of the game for long as he returned with 4 scalps to leave Lumbini College, who were chasing a 152-run target, at sea, with 65 runs on the board for the loss of 7 wickets. St. Joseph Vaz College earned major honours in the game despite it ending as a draw.
