Hansika Welihinda keeps Mahinda steady on day one

The Pre-Quarterfinal between Mahinda College and St. Peter’s College of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 commenced today at the Mahinda College Grounds in Galle.

After winning the toss, the Mahinda College skipper invited the opposition to bat first and restricted them to 143 runs in 55.4 overs. Nipunaka Fonseka (32) and Kanishka Maduwantha (24) top scored with the bat for the Peterites. Osindu Kavindya and Kushan Madusha picked up 3 wickets each for Mahinda College.

In reply, the home team hitters also struggled with the bat, losing 5 wickets for 93 runs, but Hansika Welihinda remained unbeaten on 55 runs keeping their hopes alive to secure first innings points for his team, tomorrow. Right arm seamer Santhush Gunathilaka picked up 2 wickets for 14 runs.
