Ananda College, Colombo and Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda ended their traditional encounter in a draw, while four other games of the Singer U19 division one tournament got underway today, 20th December.

The batting-heavy Dharmasoka College, got off to a flyer in the game when they raced themselves to 302 runs within the first-day at Ananda Grounds. Skipper Dinuka Dilshan brought up his best knock of the season so far as he slammed 126 runs to get his team up and running. The reliable Aroshana de Soyza stuck to his norm as he produced another useful 57 not-out following his century from the previous game. Senior man, Daminda Reshan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 53.

In reply, it was again a skipper leading from the front. Right-handed Kamesh Nirmal’s responsible 101 took Ananda just past the follow-on mark. Akila Mendis was the star with the ball for Dharmasoka as he bagged a fifer causing all sorts of trouble to the Anandians.

Dharmasoka was at 55 for 5 in their second-innings when the umpires decided the time is up!

It was another Nipun-Dhananjaya-show at Katuneriya as youngster brought up his second ton at a trot. St. Joseph Vaz College who were put to bat first by the visitors scored 279 runs for their first-innings.

The Vazians stuck to their regular script in this game too as all their batsmen fell apart but Nipun. It was a collective effort with ball from S. Thomas’ College although fast bowler Thevin Eriyagama recorded the best figures with 2 wickets for 21 runs.

S. Thomas’ were at 86 for 4 by the close of play. Left-handed Shalin de Mel scored a half-century at the top of the order to set the base for S. Thomas’ College but the wickets column will definitely hurt.

The hosts, Mahanama College, won the toss and elected to bat first at Irrigation Grounds, Rathmalana. Skipper, Pathum Boteju 40 ýnot-out down the order was a salvation to his team which was struggling against Kevin Perera and Namin Fernando who shared 7 wickets among them. Mahanama College scored 198 runs for their first-innings.

Maris Stella was not in a better position either as they were at 34 for 3 by the end of the day.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs Nalanda College, Colombo

Nalanda College took the upper-hand over Dharmapala College in their own backyard in Pannipitiya as Nalanda College uprooted them for just 145 runs.

Shevon Nadeeja’s 30 runs and Chamindu Samarasinghe’s 26 runs were the only notable performances with the bat for the home team. Sri Lanka U19 player, Chamindu Wijesinghe was the most productive bowler for the visitors, as he took 4 wickets for 32 runs.

In reply, Nalanda College was cruising at ease with 117 runs on board by the end of day-one. Skipper, Lakshitha Rasanjana remained unbeaten at the crease with 40 runs to his name.

It was a good contest between bat and ball on day-one at Asgiriya Stadium as Trinity college, who were invited to bat first, posted 251 runs for their first-innings.
