Three games of the Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament 2018/19 commenced today (29th October 2018). St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala played there traditional game against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in Moratuwa. Gurukula College, Kelaniya battled it out with Isipathana College, Colombo at BRC Grounds while the match between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and Dharmaraja College, Kandy is being worked off in Kandy.
St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala vs St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa
The Annites won the toss and elected to bat first. Lasith Warnakulasooriya made maximum out of the day for St. Anne’s as he made a fine half-century. The boys from Kurunegala showed a lot of temperament as they went on to play over 90 overs in the day. It was a long day at work for the Sebastian’s bowlers as they eventually got rid of the St. Anne’s batsmen by the end of day. St. Anne’s were bowled out for 203 runs in 90.3 overs. Praveen Cooray picked up a five-wicket haul.
The day had a tricky little passage of play left in it in which the Sebastian openers scored 8 runs without giving away their wickets. The game will resume tomorrow for day 2.

Gurukula College, Kelaniya vs Isipathana College, Colombo
The visiting Gurukala College won the toss and elected to bat first. The batsmen did not want to linger around the crease for too long as they all fell in quick succession leaving the scoreboard at 94 at the end of their first innings. Ravindu Rathnayake who picked 5 wickets for 29 runs was the pick of the bowlers. Likshan Sasanga and Rashmika Mewan were the only batsmen who managed to go past the 20-run mark, at least.
In reply, Isipathana too was not very convincing with the bat as they also ended their innings for just 185 runs. The hard-hitting youngster Thevindu Dickwella shined with a 59 runs to his name. Rishitha Sankalpa was the star with the ball for Gurukula as he bagged a fifer.
Gurukula batting their second innings, were at 72 for 3 in 36 overs. Dilip Chamara scored 22 runs to top the chart so far while Nuwan Chamara is at the crease with 20 runs to his name. Ravindu Rathnayake kept up his good work as he accounted for all 3 wickets of Gurukula.

Moratu Maha Vidyalaya vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy
On a heavily rain-affected day of play Dharmaraja won the toss and elected to field first. The game commenced only after noon and was only able to squeeze in 39 overs of play before the umpires suspended play due to bad light. Batting first, Moratu Vidyalaya suffered a collapse as they were at 119 for 6 by the end of play. Viraj Kavishka scored 33 runs while Yasitha Samararathna picked up 3 scalps for 36 runs. The game will have an early start tomorrow for day 2.
