Mahinda College, Galle played against St. Joseph’s College, Colombo at Darley Road, S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia played St. Aloysius College, Galle at home and St Peter’s College, Colombo battled it out with De Mazenod at Peter’s grounds. Several other games commenced today as well (26th October)

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs Mahinda College, Galle

St. Joseph’s, who won the toss and batted first, scored 223 run for their first innings. Youngster Shevon Daniel scored 68 runs while Johanne de Silva contributed with 37 runs. Subhanu Rajapakshe and Pasan Pethangoda picked up 3 wickets each.

In reply, Vinura Dulsara of Mahinda College hammered the Josephian bowlers all-around the park, on his way to 157 runs. Dulsara along with Sri Lanka U19 cap Nipun Malinga’s 40 took Mahinda to a commanding position. Mahinda declared their innings at 296 for 7 in 80.2 overs.

The game had a little passage of play left in which St. Joseph’s made 34 runs losing 2 wickets, both for Pasan Pethangoda.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs St. Aloysius College, Galle

The visiting St. Aloysius team suffered a heavy thumping from S. Thomas’ in their group ‘C’ fixture. St. Aloysius College, who batted first,  were wrapped for just 83 runs by the Thomians. Dilmin Ratnayake and Delon Peiris dictated terms to the boys from Galle as the pair shared 7 wickets between them.

St. Aloysius bowlers tried desperately to bring them back into the game. They were halfway successful as they managed to restrict S. Thomas’ for 152 runs. Diyon Fernando top-scored for S. Thomas’ with 42 runs while Manushka Samith and Sadun Madusanka picked up 3 wickets each. But, the batting woes for St. Aloysius was not over as the Thomians uprooted them once again for just 66 runs. Delon Peiris picked up a five-wicket haul.

De Mazenod College, Kandana vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo

De Mazenod College, Kandana locked horns with St. Peter’s College, Colombo at the St. Peter’s grounds, Colombo. Santhush Gunathilake from St. Peter’s had a great outing with the ball as he ran through the Mazenodian line-up, picking up 6 wickets for just 5 runs. De Mazenod College, who won the toss, scored 163 runs for the first innings. Sanesh Fernando was the top-scorer as he made 68 runs.

St. Peter’s in reply, was struggling at 24 for 5  at the end of day 1. Thanks to some repair from Shivan Perera (40) and Vinuda Liyanage (33) St. Peter’s managed 117 runs for their first innings.

De Mazenod made up for their first innings as they scored 125 runs for 5 wickets when the game came to an end. Sanesh Fernando and Saliya Jude both hit 34 runs each.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa met Nalanda College for their traditional encounter in Moratuwa. After winning the toss, St. Sebastian’s opted to bat first and scored 241 runs for their first innings. Opener, Dunith Jaythunga hit a well-crafted century while Kavish Madurapperuma shone with the ball for Nalanda.

In reply, Nalanda was on 29 runs at the close of play. The game will resume tomorrow for day 2.
