Three matches of the Singer U19 Division I tournament began today while Moratu Maha Vidyalaya took major honours against St. Sebastian’s College. In another game which ended today Ananda College and St. Thomas’ College Matara settled for a tame draw.

Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, Moratuwa vs St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa
The 2nd and last day of the Group ‘C’ fixture between the two schools from Moratuwa, saw an impressive show from St. Sebastian’s College. Hosts Moratu Maha Vidyalaya lost their last 4 wickets for just 12 runs early on in the day before the visitors batted out the rest of the day.
Moratu Maha Vidyalaya had already claimed points for the 1st innings win as they went past the 149 runs made by St. Sebastian’s College on day 1 itself.
In bowling for the Sebs, spinner Nadeera Fernando picked up 3 wickets while skipper Nuwanidu Fernando top-scored with 74 runs in their 2nd batting essay. All-rounders Janishka Perera and Tashik Perera also smashed unbeaten half-centuries for the Sebastianites. Rashan Avishka and Eran Hansamal grabbed 3 wickets each for the hosts.

St. Thomas’ College, Matara vs Ananda College, Colombo
The Group ‘D’ encounter hosted by Ananda College ended with no result, largely due to the slow batting of the visiting Matara Thomians. Resuming on their overnight score of 205/5 in 95 overs, they added 86 more runs in 25.3 overs early on in the day.
In reply for Ananda College, Daminda Reshan remained unbeaten on 74 as the top scorer, as the hosts ended the match on 255/6 batting out the 67 overs they were provided. Kanishka Ranthilakage also scored 71 runs for Ananda.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs Zahira College, Colombo
The Group ‘B’ fixture between Prince of Wales College and Zahira College began today in the Cambrians’ backyard. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 188 runs as right-arm off spinner Imthiyaz Slaza grabbed 6 wickets for Zahira.

In reply Zahira College were on 127/5, trailing by 61 runs. Dilsara Shaminda was unbeaten on 40.

Devapathiraja College were inserted to bat at Darley Road in the Group ‘A’ encounter against hosts St. Joseph’s College. Fast bowler Ashan de Alwis wrecked the Devapathiraja innings with a 5-wicket haul while Pavan de Silva top-scored in Devapathiraja’s 124 with 47 runs.

Mahanama College had a good outing at the Air Force grounds in Katunayake after they were put into bat by St. Joseph Vaz College. Pawantha Weerasinghe top scored with 53 runs while Sri Lanka U19 skipper Nipun Dhananjaya picked up 3 wickets for the boys from Wennappuwa.
St. Joseph Vaz once again found themselves struggling as they lost 6 wickets for 98 runs by the end of the day’s play. Nipun Dhananjaya stood up strong for his school with an unbeaten half-century while Dhanuka Nimmana picked up 3 wickets for Mahanama College.
