Thomians take honors against Joes; Richmond defeat Cambrians

Richmond College managed to defeat Prince of Wales College in the last Tier A Group Stage Limited Over match held today, while two traditional encounters of the Schools U19 Cricket Tournament ended in draws at Colombo.

Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs St. Joseph’s College, Colombo

The traditional encounter between St. Joseph’s College and S. Thomas’ College ended in a draw today, with the latter taking the major honors. Yasiru Rodrigo, who remained unbeaten on 99 runs at stumps yesterday, went on to score his century. Straight after that milestone, the visitors declared their innings at 350 for 9.

In reply, the hosts could not impress with the bat as they made only 176 runs for their first innings. The opening batsman Sheran Fonseka was the only standout batsman for the Joes, as he made 92 runs off 145 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Kavindu and Prashan star as Royal almost snatch victory

Camston and Yasiru Rodrigo, who showed their skills with the bat earlier, did their job wth the ball as well taking 3 wickets apiece.

After been asked to follow on, the hosts showed a much better batting display in the second essay, putting on 127 for 1 at the close of play on day two. Sadeesh Jayawardana made 62 runs off 92 balls, while Sheran Fonseka once again batted well, making an unbeaten 57 runs off 93 balls.

The traditional encounter between Mahanama College and St. Anne’s College also ended in a draw today at Kurunegala. After restricting the visitors for 169 in the first innings, the hosts had a great opportunity to put up a decent show with the bat and overcome the visitors but this was not the case as they also failed with the bat.

Richmond College registered a 91-run win over Prince of Wales College in the last Tier A Group stage encounter held today at Galle. After being put into bat first, the Richmondites posted 236 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs, with Vishara Fernando top-scoring with a brilliant knock of 90 runs which came off 110 balls with 9 fours and a six.

In reply the visitors made only 145 runs as Hansamana de Silva and Amshi de Silva ran through the opposition batting lineup, picking up 3 wickets each.
