Seven matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today across the island.

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs St. Anthony’s College, Kandy 

St. Joseph’s College won the Murali-Vaas Challenge Trophy as they defeated St. Anthony’s College today at St. Joseph’s College Grounds in Colombo. Skipper Johanne De Zilva starred with the bat, scoring a blistering century while Dunith Wellalage starred with the ball by taking 11 scalps for 72 runs for St. Joseph’s College. De Silva made an unbeaten 119 runs off 76 balls, including 11 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 156.58.

Royal College, Colombo vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo 

The traditional encounter between St. Peter’s College and Royal College ended in a draw today at SSC Grounds in Colombo. Left-handed Isiwara Dissanayaka’s brilliant century for Royal College in the second innings was the highlight of the day. Dissanayaka stroked 110 runs off 203 balls, including 9 fours.

Isipathana College managed to take first-innings points against Maris Stella College in their Group A encounter, which ended in a draw today at Kadirana Cricket Grounds in Negombo. Leshan Amarasinghe’s brilliant century in the first innings and the all-round performance of Yasiru Kasthuriarachchi helped the visitors take honors in the drawn encounter.

The traditional encounter between St. Sebastian’s College and St. Benedict’s College commenced today at De Soysa Grounds in Moratuwa. After winning the toss, the St. Benedict’s College skipper opted to bat first and posted 195 runs in 68.4 overs. Sanoj Perera (62) and Shehan Fernando (61) scored half-tons for the visitors. 

Shashika Perera was the star with the ball as he picked up 4 scalps for 40 runs for the hosts. St. Sebastian’s College replied strongly with the bat, scoring 119 runs for 1 wicket at the close of play on day one. Nishitha Abhilash (48) and Dunith Jayathunga (41*) top-scored for the hosts.

Rahula College took the upper hand over Devapathiraja College on day one in their traditional encounter, which commenced today at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara. Manjula Dulneth’s 5-wicket haul with the ball helped Rahula College, restricting the opposition to 137 runs. In reply, the lads from Matara were in a strong position as they made 139 runs for 3 wickets at the close of play on day one.
