Four matches in the Singer Schools’ U19 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 concluded today around the Island.

S. Thomas’ College vs De Mazenod College

The lads from Kandana commenced day two on 38/1, chasing 239 in their group ‘D’ encounter which ended in favor of S. Thomas’ College. The hosts struggled in their run-chase as the Thomian spinners restricted them to a modest 124 all out in 55 overs.

The two left-arm spinners Pavith Rathnayake and Shennon Fernando grabbed 3 wickets each to steer the lads from Mount Lavinia to a convincing 1st innings win in a rain interrupted game. Shennon Fernando picked up another 3-wicket haul after sending the hosts into bat again.

The Richmondites held their nerve to record 1st innings points in the group ‘C’ encounter which concluded today in Maggona. Restricting Nalanda to 83 on the opening day, the lads from Galle reached the winning mark in the encounter which commenced at 3.45 pm on the second day.
