Devapathiraja College, Rathgama crowned champions of U19 Girls Inter-Schools Division 1 Tournament 2023 as they beat Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha in the final worked off today (17th November) at Thurstan College Grounds, Colombo.  

Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya won the toss and opted to bat first, but things didn’t pan out as planned for the defending champions, as they were bowled out for just 77 runs. 

Hirunika Niwarthani was the pick of the bowlers for Devapathiraja College as she grabbed 3 wickets for 5 runs. Hiruni Hansika and Shehara Induwari also chipped in with scalping 2 wickets each. 

In their turn with the bat, Devapathiraja batters also faced hiccups but managed to get over the line with 4 wickets. Sanjana Kavindi put up a lone fight for the victorious Devapathiraja College with a patient knock of 24 runs. Umaya Rathnayake displayed a brilliant bowling effort for Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya in a losing cause, picking up 4 wickets. 

Devapathiraja College who began their Girls cricket in 2013, clinched their 7th title with this win. They won the U19 Girls trophy for 6 consecutive years from 2013 before ending up as runners up in last two years.
