A few two-day encounters of the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament were played today at several venues across the island, where Mahanama College and D. S. Senanayake College secured victories.
In a ‘Tier A’ 2-day clash, D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo defeated Wesley College, Colombo by 9 wickets, courtesy of their Skipper Gaviru Senhas’ superb all-round performance. Shakesh Minon had shone with the ball for Wesley, claiming a fifer.
St. Benedict’s College, Colombo suffered a 5-wicket loss at the hands of Mahanama College, Colombo in their ‘Tier A’ 2-day match played at St. Benedict’s College Grounds. Mevan Dissanayake became the only bright spot from the St. Benedict’s camp, taking 7 wickets in the Mahanama 1st innings. However, Inuka Karannagoda was the destroyer with a 6-fer and a 4-fer to finish with a match bag of 10 scalps in the match for Mahanama College.
Another ‘Tier A’ 2-day game ended today as Kavindu Kaushalya bagged 8 wickets in the match, guiding De Mazenod College, Kandana to a 1st innings win over Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa.
A couple of two-day traditional encounters commenced today as St. Thomas’ College, Matara took on Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda while S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia faced St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa.
Kaveesh Hansaka of Sri Devananda was able to clinch a 5-wicket haul while Pesandu Sanjan produced a 72-run knock for the Matara Thomians.
ST. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia suffered a 1st innings defeat after showing a disappointing performance with the bat as they were bowled out for 131. Manuja Chanthuka was the star performer with the ball, snatching a 7-wicket haul. At the end of the day, St. Sebastian’s College secured a 1st innings win, posting 166 runs for 7 wickets.
