Three games in the U19 Division I schools cricket tournament were played for day one today (7th November) featuring some intense battles between bat and ball.
Thurstan College, Colombo hosted St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala in Colombo. The day ended with 26 wickets falling on day one leaving the game in balance for both the teams to go for the win on day two. The visitors batting first made only 106, number nine batter Shehan Kumara top scored for Annites with a half-century. He backed up his batting performance with a fifer with the ball, playing a key role in securing first-innings points for the visitors.

At Moratuwa, Prince of Wales College hosted Mahanama College, Colombo in their tier ‘A’ encounter. The hosts batting first made a competitive 172 thanks to Gavesha Fernando’s half-century. Sithum Vihanga starred for Mahanama with a five-wicket haul and restricting the host to a below-par score in a batter-friendly environment in Moratuwa.
De Mazenod College, Kandana ended day one on a high against Wesley Colleg, Colombo in the game played at Campbell Park. Shevan Menusha and Sahrith Sudeena scored 69 and 64 respectively to put De Mazenod in a commanding position. Dinuja Samarathne was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 6 for 70.
