A couple of games in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament saw their completion yesterday(4th January) with St. Peter’s College and St. Joseph’s College claiming the first innings points in their respective games.

Royal College, Colombo fell just 10 runs short of St. Peter’s College’s first innings total, thanks to some superb bowling by Dilana Damsara. Damsara surprised everyone with his part-time off-spinners and dismantled the Royal batting lineup. Rehan Peiris was the lone standout for Royal College, playing a valiant knock with a superb century, but his efforts ultimately went in vain

St. Peter’s adopted a positive approach in their second innings, batting freely. First-innings top scorer Savi Fernando impressed once again, combining with Thareen Sanketh as both scored centuries in the second innings for St. Peter’s.

The game at Darley Road was utterly dominated by the hosts, St. Joseph’s. Classy right-hander Senuja Wakunugoda built on his overnight score of 60* to score a mammoth 156 runs. All-rounder Yenula Dewthusa impressed with a century of his own, proving that he is a player to watch this season with the bat. St. Joseph’s posted an imposing 371 for the loss of five wickets before declaring their innings.
