Three games in the Quarter Finals phase of the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament kicked off today, with two games in Tier ‘A’ and one game in Tier ‘B’.
Trinity College, Kandy, faced off against D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo, in the 3rd Quarter Final of Tier ‘A’ at Surrey Village Grounds in Maggona. Trinity, batting first, declared their innings after posting a highly competitive total of 297 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Skipper Manula Kularatne led by example with an impressive knock of 93 runs, while the top order fell cheaply. All-rounder Janith Ravishka provided crucial support with an unbeaten 69, helping Trinity dominate proceedings on day 1.

By stumps, D. S. Senanayake College found themselves in trouble at 15 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in just 7 overs, owing to the accurate bowling performance from Trinity College’s spin trio.
St. Anthony’s College, Kandy, met Mahanama College, Colombo, in the 4th Quarter Final of Tier ‘A’ at Mount Lavinia. The Antonians managed to post a competitive score of 205 runs. Charuka Ekanayake starred with the bat in an innings that did not see significant momentum shifts.
In response, Mahanama College found themselves in trouble at stumps, losing 7 wickets for just 110 runs. The Antonian Skipper, with his crafty off-spin, dismantled the Mahanama batting lineup, picking up 4 wickets. His spin partner and the leading wicket-taker for the boys from Kandy, Kaveesha Piyumal, also contributed with 3 wickets to aid their cause.
In the Tier ‘B’ Quarter Final match against Moratu Maha Vidyalaya, Moratuwa, Sahan Kaushalya of Lumbini College, Colombo, delivered an exceptional performance by capturing five wickets. His brilliant display restricted Moratu Maha Vidyalaya’s innings to a mere total of 105 runs.

At the close of play on Day 1, Lumbini College was in a commanding position at 190 for the loss of 5 wickets. Praveen Maneesha’s unbeaten 55, along with Dinitha De Silva’s 55 placed Lumbini firmly in control.
