9 matches in the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament kicked off today across the island. Richmond College and D. S. Senanayake College dominated their respective games on Day 1.
Thamindu Pradeeptha of Richmond College, Galle smashed a brilliant century at Kadirana against Royal College, Colombo, with the ball for the visitors. Deputy Skipper Ramiru Perera captured 7 scalps for the Royalists.

The newbies of the top division, Holy Cross College, Kalutara, showed significant improvement with the bat and scored a competitive score of 228 against Ananda College, Colombo at Bandaragama. 15-year-old Himaru Deshan scored a fighting 71 runs to put the Crusaders in a commanding position at the end of day’s play.
The Lumbini College, Colombo bowlers made sure St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa batted for a second time on Day 1 with the help of the brilliant bowling of Ushan Sathsara and Praveen Maneesha. They both combined to get rid of 6 Vazian batters.

Dulsath Namviru ran riots against St. Peter’s College, Colombo at Bambalapitiya by picking up 7 wickets in the Peterite 1st inning. In reply, St. Aloysius College, Galle was restricted to a cheap 105 runs courtesy of Shennon Rodrigo. Despite all the drama, St. Aloysius’ managed to secure the all-important 1st innings points to continue the game for Day 2 which could still go either way.
