A couple of two-day traditional encounters played today as Zahira College performed a dominant performance over Maris Stella College, Negombo, while rain shortened the clash between St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Mahinda College, Galle.
Zahira College, Colombo vs Maris Stella College, Negombo
After batting for 73 overs on day 1, Zahira College added another 67 runs this morning and declared the innings with a massive score of 378/6. Skipper Mohammed Ijaz was unlucky as he was dismissed for 99 after an entertaining knock.
Keeper-batter Roshan Careem continued from where he left off yesterday, getting past the 150 mark. He went on to smash 156 off 210 balls while striking 13 fours & 6 sixes. On the other hand, Ramith Bandara, Hasindu Perera and Oshadha Gimhana each grabbed 2 wickets for Maris Stella.
After putting on a show with the bat, Zahira bowlers joined the party and did their job perfectly, bowling Maris Stella College out for 172. Oshadha Gimhana became the top scorer for them with 38 runs. On the bowling front, Yohan Saminda and Inam Slasa picked up 3 wickets apiece.
Zahira College took major honours, registering a massive 1st innings win as they posted 131 for 4 wickets when the match ended in a draw.
St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs Mahinda College, Galle
On a rain-hit day, St. Joseph’s College opted to bowl first against Mahinda College and restricted them to 40/4. Mahinda College batted for 59 overs, having lost 8 wickets with only 118 runs on the board before the stumps on day 1.
Ranindu Nimsara scored 31 as their highest run scorer, while Lahiru Amarasekara and Demion De Silva claimed a couple of scalps apiece.
