Two Quarter-Final encounters of the U19 Division 1 Inter-Schools Limited Overs Tournament 2023/24 were played today (14th November) at Colombo and Kandana.
St. Joseph’s College registered a thrilling 2-wicket win over Richmond College in the Division 1 Tier A Quarter-Final encounter played today at Thurstan College Grounds, Colombo.
Due to the wet outfield, match had to be reduced to a 39-over contest. St. Joseph’s College won the toss and invited the opposition to take the first lease of the wicket.
Kaveesha Induwara and Thamindu Pradeeptha stroked fine half-centuries as Richmond College posted 164/8 in the allotted 39 overs. Yenula Dewtusa starred with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 33 runs for Joes.
Chasing a revised target of 170 in 39 overs, the Josephian batters also found it difficult to score runs, but the in-form batter Hirun Kapurubandara stroked a match-winning half-century to take his side over the line.
Trinity College recorded a convincing win over Mahanama College in the Division 1 Tier A Quarter-Final encounter played today at De Mazenod College Grounds, Kandana.
After been put into bat first in a rain-shortened game (43 overs per side), Mahanama College made only 158 runs as Manula Kularathna stole the limelight with a 3-wicket haul for Trinity College.
It was a walk in the park run chase for Trinity College as they crossed over the line quite comprehensively with 8 wickets in hand. Dinusha Peris (78*) and Viduka Dhammage (52*) were the chief architects with the bat for Joes as they made vital half-centuries.
