Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and Mahanama College, Colombo pocketed important first innings points in the Singer Cup U19 division one cricket tournament 2016/17 today.
Mahanama College vs Ananda College
Captain Malindu Maduranga and Pawan Rathnayake slammed excellent centuries as Mahanama College recorded an important first innings win over the star-studded Ananda College outfit in their Group B match played at Bloomfield grounds.
Right-handed Maduranga clobbered 112 off 101 deliveries with 9 fours and 7 sixes while Rathnayake consumed 374 balls in 414 minutes with 13 fours to reach 102 not out as the home team Mahanama reached 409 for 7 declared in their first innings.
Earlier on day one, the Anandians were bowled out for 217 despite left-handed stroke maker, Sahan Suraweera and experienced Sammu Ashan smashing quick-fire half-centuries. The visitors ended day two on 63 for 3 with Sammu Ashan continuing his good form with another score of 34.

Maliyadeva College vs Bandaranayake College, Gampaha
Sri Lanka U19 cap and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala Captain Damitha Silva produced a stellar all-round performance as they notched up a first innings win over Bandaranayake College, Gampaha in their Group D match which worked off at Maliyadeva College grounds in Kurunegala.
Left-handed Silva slammed 10 fours and 4 sixes as stroked a 109-ball 108 to help his team reach 300 before declaring their innings. Earlier on day one, Silva took four wickets with his left-arm spinners to restrict the visitors to 190. Hachitha Thamal and skipper Sasiri Adikari made fifties for the lads from Gampaha.
Bandaranayake managed to escape with only a first innings defeat as Sisitha Madanayake made a fighting, unbeaten 77 in their second innings despite Silva working his magic once again claiming 5 wickets for 76.
Bandaranayake College – 190 all out in 43.3 overs: Hachitha Thimal 67, Sasiri Adikari 61, Damitha Silva 4/49, Sanjeewan Priyadarshana 2/24.
Maliyadewa College – 300/9 declared in 64 overs: Damitha Silva 108, Dulaj Ranathunga 62, Dinanjaya Premarathne 33 ,Dilshan Kollure 29, Arosha Madushan 2/32, Janidu Jayawardena 2/33, Imath Jayaweera 2/59.
Bandaranayake College (2nd Innings) – 164 all out in 41.3 overs: Sisitha Madanayaka 77*, Damitha Silva 5/76, Sajeewan Priyadharshana 2/19.
St. Peter’s College vs St. Mary’s College, Kegalle
Spin-trio, Miflal Ameen, Chathura Obeysekara and Sachin Silva restricted the hosts, St. Mary’s College, Kegalle to 151 on day one in their Group A encounter at Wickramabahu grounds in Gampola.
After opting to field, the Peterites managed to strangle hold the Marians with their spinners as they took all the 10 wickets using spin. Left-arm spinner, Miflal Ameen was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 46 while the off-spin duo, Chathura Obeysekara and Sachin Silva took 3 wickets apiece.
In reply, the lads from Bambalapitiya ended day one on 98 for 3. Opening batsman Santhush Gunathilake made a useful 28 while one drop batsman Salith Fernando remained unbeaten on 46.
The match will be continued tomorrow for day two.
