Colombo North were crowned champions of the Under 17 Sri Lanka Youth League as they beat Kandy by 19 runs in the final of the tournament which was worked off today (29th August) at RDICS, Dambulla.
Batting first, Colombo North posted a commanding 283 runs on the scoreboard. The opening batter Kavindu Amameth top-scored for Colombo North with an impressive knock of 82 runs off 100 balls, with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Samindu Maduranga (50) and Koojana Perera (48) also played useful hands with the bat. The right-arm fast medium bowler Sheshan Yashon, who has been impressive with the ball throughout the tournament, yet again produced a brilliant spell for Kandy, taking 4 scalps for 40 runs.
In reply, Kandy came so close to chasing down the target, falling just 19 runs short at the end. Kandy’s in-form batter Supun Waduge scored another excellent knock, aggregating 93 runs off 128 balls with 11 fours and a six.
However, a collective bowling effort from Colombo North led by Praveen Maneesha (3/38), Lahiru Amarasekara (2/33) and Tharusha Kodikara (2/55) managed to restrict the opposition, helping their side clinch the title.
