Colombo South and Kandy registered wins on the second day of the Under 17 Sri Lanka Youth League played yesterday (23rd August) at RDICS, Dambulla and Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala respectively.
Kandy who opened their account with a convincing win over Colombo South in the inaugural day of the League, registered their 2nd win yesterday, recording a massive 202-run win over Galle.
Pulindu Perera, Lakvin Abeysinghe, Jayavi Liyanagama and Isuru Panala who scored half-centuries for Kandy set up the foundation for their victory. The top scorer Abeysinghe scored 88 runs off 105 balls while Perera stroked a blistering 82 runs off 33 runs with 6 fours and 9 sixes.
In the bowling department, Manula Kularathne and Sheshan Yashon stole the limelight, picking up 4 wicket each for Kandy.
The encounter between Colombo South and Galle which was worked off at Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala was interrupted by rain and as a result the match was reduced to a 42-over affair. Batting first, Galle managed to post 205 runs in 39 overs. Radeesha Bandaranayake was excellent with the ball for Colombo South as he managed to snare 4 wickets for 20 runs.
Colombo South was set a target of 200 runs as per the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method which they achieved in 27.1 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Rusanda Gamage was the chief architect of the run-chase as he made an unbeaten 72 runs off 73 balls. Apart from him, Vishen Halambage played a match defining knock of 45 runs off 19 balls.
