Colombo North and Kandy registered wins in the inaugural day of Under 17 Sri Lanka Youth League which kicked off yesterday (22nd August) at RDICS, Dambulla and Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala respectively.

The encounter between Galle and Colombo North witnessed a thrilling finish with the latter eventually winning by 3 wickets. Batting first, Galle put on 194 runs in 48.5 overs with Dinura Kalupahana top scoring with a knock 56 runs.
Koojana Perera was the best on show with the ball for Colombo North as he picked up 4 wickets for 39 runs. Colombo North had to work hard to chase down the target as they reached there in the 49th over losing 7 wickets. Koojana Perera who starred with the ball earlier, showed his skills with the bat too, scoring a match winning knock of 51 runs.
In the other encounter of the day, Kandy registered a convincing win over Colombo South. Kandy batted first and managed to put on a solid total of 293/8 in the allotted 50 overs. Pulindu Perera (54), Lakvin Abeysinghe (54) and Jayavi Liyanagama (52) stroked half-tons.
In reply, Colombo South made only 168 runs handing a 102-run win (DLS Method) to Kandy. Sheshan Yashon was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for Kandy as he bagged 4 wickets for 17 runs.
