Maliyadeva College, St Aloysius College and Mahinda College were the first to get through to the quarters in the Singer U17 Div I Cricket tournament. Three more schools were selected today and below is an overview of the pre quarterfinals which took place today.
St Peter’s College vs Prince of Wales College
This was the most competitive match for the day as both teams had an equal winning chance right until the very end. POW won the toss and they elected to bat first. The match was played at De Soyza grounds, which is a very familiar place for POW. They managed to post 214 runs in their lot of 50 overs thanks to good contributions by Shamindu Viraj (70) and Ravindu Lochana (54). Peterites came into bat with a fairly easy task ahead but POW did not let them get away easily. The game went right into the wire but ultimately St Peter’s got over the line with 3 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare. Sachin Silva top scored with 82 runs to go with his two wickets with the ball earlier in the day.

D.S. Senanayke College vs Devapathiraja College
Mudith Lakshan’s all-round performance with both bat and ball helped DS to register a 7 wicket thumping victory against Devapathiraja College at Bloomfield grounds. Devapathiraja won the toss and elected to bat first but they were not allowed to score freely by the DS boys. They were bundled out for just 146 runs in 40 overs. Lakshan took 3 wickets for just 6 runs while Yasith Samaradiwakara took 3 for 18. In reply DS looked like they were in trouble early on after they lost 3 wickets for just 50 runs but Lakshan and Vihan Gunasekara batted superbly to take their team over the finishing line in just 39 overs.

Ananda College vs Gurukula College
Ananda bowling attack put up a dominating performance to register an 89 run victory against Gurukula College today at Prison grounds. After putting Ananda to bat first, Gurukula did well to restrict their opponents to just 187 runs. Asel Sigera top scored with 45 runs for Ananda College while Sachintha Chamith and Ushan Malith shared 3 wickets each for Gurukula College. Ananda had to bowl well and they absolutely dominated the second half of the game. Sanath Dasanayake took 4 wickets and Asel Sigera chipped in with 2 wickets which helped Ananda College to restrict Gurukula College to just 98 runs.
