St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa entered the finals of the ‘Singer Trophy’ under 17 all-island tournament 2016 when they defeated the defending champions, Ananda College by 17 runs in the first semi-final worked out today at Moors grounds.
After opting to bat first, the lads from Moratuwa posted a healthy 254 on the board with three batsmen, Gihan Senanayake, Nuwanidu Fernando and Tharusha Fernando crossing the fifty-run mark. Left-arm spinner Ashel Sigera was the pick of the bowlers securing 4 wickets for 17 runs.
In reply, Ananda College put up a solid fight but fell 17 runs short as they were bowled out for 237 runs in the final over. Top-order batsman Dushan Hettige made 50 while Ashel Sigera was unfortunate to be dismissed for 49.

The Sebastianites will now take on the winners of the second semi-final, Thurstan College and St. Peter’s College which will be played tomorrow (30th August) at the same venue.
