St. Anthony’s beat Royal to enter finals

St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota overcame Royal College, Colombo by 4 wickets in the Singer Schools U17 Division I semi-finals which was worked off today at Moors grounds.

Being asked to bat first in the all-important semi-finals Royal lads folded under pressure as their wickets fell in regular intervals. Excellent bowling backed up with a superb fielding effort from St. Anthony’s kept Royal batsmen to a below par 132 inside 48 overs. Sasith Thennakoon was the chief destroyer as he picked up 3 crucial wickets to trouble the lads from Reid Avenue.

Chasing a modest target to enter the finals, Anthonians planned their run chase perfectly as they reached the target in 31.4 overs. Kalhara Senarathna and Mohommad Kamil were impressive with two solid knocks, while Navodya Wijekumar gave the finishing touches as St. Anthony’s College beat Royal College in a low scoring encounter.
