The ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 15 division one inter-schools cricket tournament 2016 will commence from May under a new format.

According to reliable sources, the tournament will feature 81 teams competing in 11 groups. The competition is organized by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association along with Singer Sri Lanka PLC. One match will be played over a day and it is confined to six hours and twenty minutes of play and a minimum of 95 overs should be bowled. One team is allowed to bat only a maximum of 65 overs.

Last year the tournament was played as 50-over matches and S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia lifted the trophy after 30 years beating St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa in the final. After the completion of the first-round, 40 teams will be qualified to the second round which will also be played on a league basis in 8 groups.

The winner and runner-up of those 8 groups will be then advancing to the knock-out stage of 16. The final stages of the tournament are expected to be played in August.
