Two National cricketers test positive for Covid

Two Sri Lankan cricketers who have been training for the upcoming West Indies series, have tested positive for Covid-19. 

Sri Lanka fast bowlers Binura Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne who engaged in training in order to prepare for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against the West Indies have tested positive for COVID-19. According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the two players infected have been sent for treatment at Covid treatment facilities.

In order to prepare for the upcoming West Indies ODI and T20I series, a 34-member squad began their training in Colombo in three separate groups. 

Sri Lankan health authorities are now involved in contract tracing in order to identify other players who had contact with these two infected cricketers. However, SLC mentioned that since the training was conducted in three different groups, all players had not had direct contact with the infected cricketers.

SLC also said that the health authorities have implemented necessary precautionary measures to protect the safety of the players. 

The Sri Lanka tour of West Indies which consists of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is is set to commence next month.
