Sri Lanka Women favourites in Borneo; Fresh-look Men’s team

With a title to defend, the Sri Lanka national women’s sevens team took flight to Malaysia along with a fresh men’s outfit…

The 2018 Borneo Sevens kicked off this evening with the participation of 22 teams and will span out for three days. The Sri Lanka Men’s team played their first group stage game later in the evening with the team taking on the Islanders Rugby Club.

It was simply one-way traffic for the Tuskers lead by Sudarshana Muthtuthanthri as they scored a record 80 points which is the highest a team has ever scored in the history of the tournament. The Lankans collected their 80 points off 12 tries and 10 conversions.

The Tuskers will tee off with the Sabah Eagles team in the afternoon (1.30 p.m. SL time) in their group stage game.

Earlier in the day, it was an impressive opening statement from the Lady Tuskers when they took on the Sabah Sukma Club side and the ladies were successful in scoring 50 points and deprived their opponents of a single point.

It was a good opening game for the Sri Lanka Women’s team, who are the tournament favourites in the women’s competition, having won it last year. Randika Kumudumali’s team looked very composed and showcased good composure against a rather weak Sabah side.

The 50 point win will mean that the women will have their spirits high as they face tough opponents in the next two days.
