The annual football encounter between S.Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia and Trinity College, Kandy took place today (18th September) at the Big Club Grounds in Mount Lavinia.
The opening minutes of the game looked a like contest of “hot lava” where both the teams gave away the possession constantly. Getting into the middle phase of the first half both the teams showed a bit of control towards the game. But neither of them showed signs of scoring.
Coming into the second half Trinity College displayed a better a style of play compared to the first half. The boys from Kandy created chances breaking the Thomian line of defence constantly.
Due to the constant threat showed by the Trinitian forwards they found the back of the net through Viduneth Dhammage in the 71st minute of the game.
Since the goal was scored the Trinity outfit found another gear creating chances left right centre. Also, the Trinity defenders were showing their ‘A’ game towards the dying stages of the game denying the Thomians making a comeback into the game.
Trinity midfielder Videneth Dhammage was adjudged the player of the match for his incredible performance and scoring the game-deciding goal.
