Trinity College Kandy ended up victorious in their encounter against St Aloysius at the Mahinda College Cricket Ground. A good level of cricket was displayed by both teams throughout the two days.
Winning the toss, the Aloysians choose to field with having plan to chase down the score put on board by the Trinity. By way of stroke play by the two opening batsman of Trinity, they build a great partnership of 112 out of 134 balls putting some pressure on the Aloysian Bowlers. The opening pair Lakshitha Dissanayaka and Bhagya Palihadena scored 61 of 73 balls and 54 of 71 balls respectively.
However the Aloysian bowlers put full effort to keep the free-flowing Trinitians in check. Trinity declared their 1st innings at tea time being able to put a score of 247/7 in 60 overs. Dinuka Wikramanayaka also added 69 runs of his individual score out of 93 balls to the score sheet bringing up a total of 3 half centuries to their team in the first innings .The Aloysian bowlers W.A.Madushanka took 3 wickets for 44 runs in 12 overs , P.G.D.Hashan taking 2 wickets giving out 47 runs in 12 overs , C.M.M.N.R.Dhananjaya and G.P.C.Kumara taking one wicket each for 51 runs in 13 overs and for 41 runs in 13 overs respectively.
The unsuccessful batting squad of Aloysius College could only put up more than a score of 123 runs losing all their wickets in 62.5 overs off Trinity bowling . P.G.D.Hashan of Aloysius College came up with a half century of 55 runs making him score half of their team’s effort. The bowling side of Trinity college was strong enough to knock the Aloysian batsman out with Lakshan Jayasingha taking 4 wickets for 26 runs in 14.5 overs , Raveen Sayer took 4 wickets giving 30 runs in 14 overs and Amrith Shriman taking 2 wickets for 18 runs in 10 overs..
Trinity College put the Aloysians to follow on and demolished them for 41 runs. The highest individual score of the Aloysian 2nd Innings was just 9 runs scored by P.G.D.Hashan. Trinity’s Lakshan Jayasingha ripped apart the home batting taking 6 for 8 runs in 9.1 overs , Charith Sudaraka took 3 wickets for 10 runs in 6 overs taking the visitors to victory by an innings and 83 runs
