Trinity settles down for first innings points over Mahinda

Trinity College, Kandy had to return home from Galle with only first innings points as Mahinda College put up a gritty batting display to save their under 19 division 1 cricket encounter played on 2nd and 3rd of December.

Mahinda skipper won the toss and elected to field first. The visitors posted a respectable total of 260 in 63.3 overs in their 1st innings. Skipper Raveen Sayer played a superb knock of 62 while wicket-keeper batsman Naveen Ekanayake made a half-century. Tharuka Samarawickrama and Thamith Kalhara shared 9 wickets for the hosts. 

Mahinda in their 1st lease of the wicket was bundled out for 127 runs in 55.1 overs with opening fast-bowlers Pramodya Abeykoon and Lahiru Kumara snapping 3 wickets each while off-spinner Raveen Sayer chipped in with 2 wickets. Gihan Dhanushka top-scored with 43 runs for the boys from Galle.

The Trinitians enforced the follow-on and yet their effort of beating Mahinda by an outright failed with the host battling grittily in the 2nd innings.  Mahinda ended day two on 116 for 6.
