Trinity record 5th outright win; DS survive Josephian charge

Defending champions, Trinity College cruised to their 5th outright win for the season when they comfortably defeated St. Servatius College, Matara by an innings and 83 runs at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara on Saturday.

Skipper Raveen Sayer was the star for the boys from Kandy due to his all-round performances. The right-arm off-spinner grabbed a five-wicket haul in the first innings while he took another 3 in the second innings. He made a sound 54 with the bat as well.

St. Servatius – 59 all out in 21.4 overs: Ramesh Nimantha 13, Raveen Sayer 5/3, Rashmika Dilshan 4/31.

Trinity – 236/9 declared in 59 overs: Dilan Jayalath 62, Raveen Sayer 54, Rashmika Dilshan 39*, Tashila Dodanwala 18, Chathura Sudarshan 2/20, Keshara Nuwantha 2/35, Chanuka Dilshan 2/62.

St. Servatius (2nd inn) – 94 all out in 33.3 overs: Thilan Prasan 17, Duvindu Thilakarathna 3/43, Raveen Sayer 3/40, Rashmika Dilshan 2/10.

 
St. Joseph’s College vs D.S Senanayake College

Left-arm spin twins, Harin Cooray and Malshan Rodrigo bamboozled D.S Senanayake yet St. Joseph’s College had to satisfy with a first-innings win in their drawn encounter which ended on Saturday at Darley Road.

Cooray was the chief destroyer taking a 7-wicket haul in the first innings while Rodrigo ended up with a 7-wicket match bag. All 16 DS Senanayake wickets were captured by these two youngsters.

Skipper Thimila Vidyasekara made two fighting knocks of 47 and 31 respectively for the visitors.

DS. Senanayake – 133 all out in 41 overs: Thimila Vidyasekara 47, Torin Pitigala 43, Harin Cooray 7/22, Malshan Rodrigo 3/45.

Ananda College vs De Mazenod College

Murali Harmony Cup 2015 winners, Ananda College recorded a first-innings win over De Mazenod College in their drawn ‘Singer Cup’ encounter at Kandana on Saturday.

Skipper Nisal Fransisco’s fighting 64 helped Ananda get over De Mazenod’s first-innings score while his counter-part Akash Senarathne showed prowess with both bat and ball (35 & 39 with the bat and 5 wickets with the ball)

De Mazenod – 160 all out in 52.5 overs: Rukshan Fernando 44, Akash Senarathne 35, Erosh De Silva 20, Sangeeth Deshan 19, Lahiru Udayanga 3/5, Dinuka Jayarathne 2/21, Dileepa Jayalath 2/39.

Prince of Wales College vs Mahanama College

Bad weather hampered the ‘Singer Cup’ encounter between the Cambrians and Mahanamians at Moratuwa.

Only 125 overs were possible on both days and the visitors missed an easy chance to register a first-innings win as the game ended without a result.
