Trinity outclass STC in Hockey Traditional

Trinity College Kandy proved out to be the better side of the two as they went on to beat St. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia in their traditional Hockey encounter 3-2 despite a strong fight by the visitors in the second passage of play.

It was yet another day in the books of class and tradition where the men clad in red, gold and blue took on the blue and blacks at Asgiriya. The game started off giving Trinity a clear advantage with them dominating almost the whole first half of play. Having home advantage under their belt, the home boys proved themselves worth as striker forward Marlon Wijewardena gave them a tremendous platform right from the onset by scoring the first goal. The dominance continued as he leveled in another later during play to take the Trinitians to a 2-0 lead.

 At half time when all flows were moving Trinity’s way, people often say the game after lemons is surely the deciding time frame of the game. This is another example of this common phrase.

Adamant for glory the Thomians fielded in an attacking purview with Romesh Nallaperuma bringing the goalless STC their first through a corner break. With scores being yet in favor of the home gentlemen, the decider came almost towards the middle phases of play; that too being a masterpiece of work by Shenal De Silva who played in a reverse to equalize scores.

The game which had till this point been all Trinity’s way took a different   with suspense growing amongst the fans  gathered on for the home side.

Clearing all possible doubts on the result, came in the deciding goal by the Trinity forward Sachithra Amarasinghe who brought back the pendulum hurtling on to Trinity’s side. The game was thus wrapped up with Trinity retaining the Warden Neville De Silva trophy for another successive year.
