Trinity College had to settle for a first innings win in their encounter against St. Benedicts in the match that was played at the Benedicts grounds yesterday.
Batting first, the visitors accumulated a massive total of 326 runs for the loss of 8 wickets before declaring. Opening batsman Nushan Weerasinghe got himself through to the three-figure mark, making 105, while in form Dilan Jayalath scored 57. Sasira Gamlath chipped in with an unbeaten 50 runs. The only notable performance for the Bens was by Madushan Kularatne who ended with figures of 4/92.
Coming out bat in their first innings, St. Benedicts College were knocked over for 278 runs, falling just 48 runs short of the Trinity total. Dinitha Basnayaka top scored with 85 runs and Thulina Dilshan assisted with 58. Trinity skipper Raveen Sayer went on to secure yet another 5 wicket haul and Duvindu Tilekerathne picked up three wickets.
With a lead of 48 runs, Trinity College went on to score 225/9 in 49 overs before play concluded on the second day giving them the first innings honors. Dilan Jayalath and Shavindu Amarasinghe both got themselves past the 50 run mark to steer the 2nd innings total past 200.

St. Aloysius takes first innings honors
Ananda College was put in a tough situation when they faced St. Aloysius College at the Panagoda Army Camp grounds. Batting first, the Aloysius batsmen took the team total to 210 with Ashen Bandara and Navindu Nirmal contributing with 48 and 40 respectively.
Chasing a target of 210 to avoid a first innings defeat, the Anandians were all out for 145 with some aggressive bowling by Haren Buddhika and Gihan Niroshan, who picked seven wickets between them, causing the damage. Nisal Francisco top scored with 43 and Nipun Hagalla contributed with 30.
Ananda College reconciled their first innings misery by bundling out their opponents in the second innings for 151 with Dileepa Jayalath taking a five wicket haul but time did not permit the Anandians to complete their chase to win the encounter.
At the close of play, Ananda College was 105/3. Kavishka Anjula was the top scorer in their second innings chase with 64 runs.

Important win for Joes
St. Joseph’s College secured an important win after last week’s loss against Royal College as they beat Wesley College by 10 wickets yesterday.
Winning the toss and batting first, Wesley College were only able to amass 106 runs in their first innings. It was Harin Cooray who did the damage for the Josephians picking up five wickets in the first innings. Cooray ended with figures of 5/29 while Ruchira Ekanayaka picked up three wickets. For Wesley, Helith Babarella top scored with 45.
Batting second, St. Joseph’s cruised to 294 for the loss of 8 wickets before declaring. Sashan Perera’s 77 was the highlight of the Joes 1st innings, while Shevon Fonseka contributed with 41. Andrew Parais was the main man for the Wesley-ites in the bowling department picking up 4 wickets.
Coming out to bat, Wesley College scored a total of 198 runs, but it was not sufficient to prevent a loss. Andrew Parais’s 88 runs proved in vain for Wesley as Hiran Cooray took home innings figures of 7/43 making it a match bag of 12 wickets for him.
Needing just 11 runs for the win, the Josephian opening pair raced to the required mark in just 10 balls.
