Trinity College Kandy will be meeting St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia in their traditional two day fixture this Friday and Saturday at Mount Lavinia.

This game which coincides with the Trinity Thomian weekend will be historical since this would be the first occasion a trophy would be awarded for the winner among the two.

This year’s fixture proves important as the Ranil Abeynaike trophy would be awarded for the first time.

Former Sri Lankan player and international commentator Ranil Abeynaike played and captained  S Thomas and played against Trinity in the years 1972 and 1973. His 1972 season was indeed memorable as he picked up a record 9 wickets for 39 runs while scoring 43 in which his team secured an outright victory. The ’73 encounter ended in a draw but he stole the limelight once again picking up nine wickets for 108 runs

Sharing a rich history of over eight decades in the sport among the two schools, the STC v Trinity game which is also known as the Trinity -Thora fixtures dates back to the late 1930’s where the first game saw light as a friendly at its inception.

Last year’s encounter ended up in a first innings win at Asgiriya to the Kandy lads under the leadership of Niroshan Dickwella.
