Trinity and St. Aloysius’ register massive wins

Trinity College, Kandy and St. Aloysius’ College, Galle recorded outright wins in their Singer U19 division 1 cricket tournament 2017/18 matches which concluded on Tuesday.

Trinity College vs St. Servatius’ College

Trinity College defeated the hapless St. Servatius’ College side by an innings and 49 runs at Asgiriya Stadium.

After controlling the game on the 1st day, the hosts put up a solid performance with the willow as they declared their innings on 272/4 in 77 overs. Skipper Hasitha Boyagoda was the hero for the Trinity Lions as he stroked an unbeaten 154 ball 130 that included 16 fours and a massive six, while Poorna Wansekara hit a solid 49 as Trinity College gained 134 run lead in the first innings.

The visitors faltered in their second innings to the spin of Vimukthi Nethmal who bagged a five-wicket haul as they were bundled out for just 85 runs.

Bandaranayake College vs St. Aloysius’ College, Galle

St. Aloysius’ College, Galle continued their great run thrashing Bandaranayake College, Gampaha by an innings and 130 runs in their traditional encounter which concluded today in Kadirana.

Resuming day two on 239/4, Sri Lanka U19 poolist Ravindu Sanjana went on to slam 168 off 234 balls with 19 fours and a six as they declared on 282/6 in 80.1 overs.

After being cleaned up for 85 in the first innings, the hosts were once again folded for 67 inside 30 overs to give St. Aloysius’ College their second consecutive win in the season.

Isipathana College vs DS Senanayake College

The traditional encounter ended in a draw with Isipathana College taking major honours at Colts grounds.

Off-spinner Sanjula Bandara bowled a brilliant spell (5/35) for Isipathana as the Dons were dismantled for just 118 in their 1st innings. After being enforced to follow-on, DS Senanayake College rescue mission was led by their captain Vihan Gunasekara who struck a fine 70 to force a draw.

Earlier, Isipathana posted 278 in the back of their captain Ayana Siriwardena’s century on day one.
