Trinitians get the better off Thomians

The 12th Annual Trinity- Thomian Hockey Encounter played for the Warden Neville De Alwis Memorial Shield was worked off yesterday at the Police Headquarters grounds.

The lads from Kandy managed to bag, both the Old Boys and the present Boys Match at the end of the day’s proceedings. The first half of the First X1 game proved to be very exciting as both teams were at each other from the first whistle itself. After the initial momentum dropped the Thomians were on the back foot and as a result of their lack of tactical defense plans they managed to give a total of 04 short corners to the opponents. R. P Nallaperuma and K. Dinoshan from both teams had a marvelous first half of play as they were in the front line of attack at each move of the game.

At Half Time the scores were tie at -0-0.

Second half proved to be more interesting for the fans as both teams got into business from the first moves itself. The attackers were on the move with all their set plans while the defense department of both teams were having a solid game with their usual game plans. However tables turned when promising young K. Dinoshan of Trinity College, Kandy broke through the Thomian defense to score the first goal for the visitors.

Feeling the  heat with just 4 minutes to spare before the final whistle, the Thomians were trying out all of their set plans and moves to score a goal to tie the game. However their  efforts were proved wrong as the Trinitians managed to hold on with the one point lead until the very end of the game.

At Full Time the scores read 1-0 in favour of Trinity College, Kandy.

The Old Boys match concluded well in favour of the visitors as they managed to win outright with a score line of 4-1. Goal Scoreres were Rukmal Shah, Janitha Vithanage, V. V Rajmohan and Ifan Ansar.  Meanwhile the Under 15 match was ended at a tie with scores reading as 1-1.
