TPT Hockey Carnival will commence this weekend at the S. Thomas’ College small club grounds, Mount Lavinia from 8.30 am onwards. The event will feature players from three schools in three main age categories.
Chairman of the TPT organizing committee, Amitha Abeynaike speaking at the press conference stated that Trinity College, St. Peters’ College and S. Thomas’ College have united together to present a mini hockey carnival in Colombo in order to maintain stronger ties between the three schools.
Past pupils will play in three main age groups namely 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and over 40’s and the Mario Joseph & Godwin Solomons shield, Old Trinitians’ Sports Club shield and Dr. Sarath Seneviratne (Thomian) shield will be presented to the winning teams of the above grouped ages respectively. 1st XI teams from all three schools will have a friendly battle against each other to regale the day and the special TPT trophy will be presented to the winning team.
Addressing the media and the invitees, Amitha Abeynaike went on to say that the idea of organizing the 7’s hockey carnival was originally suggested by the Thomians and the concept of a tournament of this nature was to promote and improve hockey in these three schools and also to continue and maintain the ties between the old boys. A presentation of the TPT t-shirt was made by Krishthan Subramanium and the souvenir was presented by Dharshan Weragala to the TPT Chairman.
To end the evening, the Chairman invited fellow hockey fans and players to come over to STC small club ground to be a part of the inaugural TPT Hockey Carnival on the 12th of Saturday from 8.30 am onwards.
