(Recap Week 3)

Week 3 of the tournament was a bit of wobble as Kinniya Central pulled out from the championship and the hill capital clash coming to a premature end.  

In the first game of the week Maris Stella hosted St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya. Tharinda Silva was on target once again as the Negombo boys came through with a 3-1 win to go top of the table.

Gintota Zahira got their second win of the campaign with a 2-1 home win against Baduriya Central who has now lost 3 in a trot. Zahira Gintota now top group D with 6 points.

Up in the Hills Gampola Zahira took on Kingswood College Kandy. The game was at 1-1 in the 55th minute when the referee stopped play due to security concerns. The game will continue later in the week.

At Kinniya Al Aqsa College hosted Mahajana College Jaffna. The boys from the north came out 1-0 winners in hard fought match. Mahajana College now top group C.

Holy Cross not playing till week 3 came out in top by beating St. Benedicts 5-0 in Kalutara. Bens now have lost 2 games and have very slim chances of qualifying to the knockout stage.

De Mazenod Kandana will take on Bandaranayke College in the last game of the week 3.

(Preview week-4)

St. Joseph’s College – Colombo vs Kingswood College – Kandy (Group A)

After getting a week off the boys from Maradana will be back in the fry with a game against the boys from Kandy. Josephians will fancy this to come out with a win and three points. Kingswood kick off a busy week as they are caught in fixture congestion.

Mahajana College – Jaffna vs St. Benedict’s College – Colombo (Group C)

Mahajana College leads the table and will look to increase when they host the boys from Kotahena. St Benedicts having a mixed season so far will be the under dogs. They will be satisfied if they can come out with a point.

Ginthota Zahira College – Galle vs Hameed Al Husseinie College (Group D)

Surprise package in group D Zahira College Gintota will look to cause another upset when they take on much fancied Hameedia at Galle. A win will make sure they go through to the knockout phase. Hameedia are just playing their second game of the tournament.

Holy Cross College – Kalutara vs Zahira College – Colombo (Group C)

Vernon Fernando Stadium will host the battle between Holy Cross Kalutara and Zahira College Colombo. A mouthwatering fixture in the school calendar in years gone by will surely be an entertaining encounter. Zahira looking to book their place in the knock out phase will go in as favorites however you cannot underestimate the local boys.

St. Patrick’s College – Jaffna vs Maris Stella College – Negombo (Group B)

Two schools that have scored high in their previous matches will go head to head in the north. A win for either team will put them in control in group B. St. Patrick’s hold the edge in this one. They will be weary of the goal scoring threat of Tharinda Silva.

Kingswood College – Kandy vs Mahinda College, Galle (Group A)

A second game in the same week for the boys from the hill capital will be taxing. However home ground advantage will surely be a plus as both teams will try to gain some vital points. As it stands nether can progress to the knockout stage.
