Sathsara Kalugampitiya has been appointed captain of the Vidyartha College first XV ahead of the Schools Rugby League 2020.

The versatile three-quarter, Kalugampitiya sprang into the spotlight in the 2018 season when the team won the Plate Championship. That year, the team missed out on the qualification to ‘A’ division by a slight margin.
Last season, Vidyartha College were entrusted with a challenge to make it to the top division and the team led by Kavishka Bandara ensured that the side achieved the target after a long lapse of 7 years.
Playing at fullback and wing, Kalugampitiya was phenomenal in the first-round, scoring over 10 tries and continued to rattle oppositions in the Plate championship.

This year is set to be a crucial year for the school from Kandy since they will be playing in the top division and survival is going to be tough.

Danushka Pushpakumara will coach the team this year.
The Schools Rugby League is set to kick off at the end of February.
