Ananda College hosted Royal College today at Ananda Mawatha in an inter school cricket match.
The home team won the toss and decided to take first lease of the wicket and managed to end their first innings on 253 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Ananda College declared their innings after facing 73.3 over’s with senior man Thushara Samarakoon top scoring with 65 well worked runs.
Kaveen Dananjaya, Samvu Ashan and Chamalaka Athulathmudali all chipped in with scores of 34 to add to the total. The wicket was well suited for the batters as Samarakoon led the Maroon charge to post a formidable total.
For Royal it was Poorna Aluthge and skipper Devind Padmanathan who captured 3 wickets apiece for 53 runs and 60 runs respectively. Harith Samarasinghe also contributed with the ball capturing 2 wickets for 48 runs.
Royal College in their first innings ended day one with 45 runs on the board for one wicket in 14 overs. Opener Shaminda Dias was the man who got out for 4 failing to see the new ball through. Isuru Gunathileka and Sampath De Silva remained unbeaten on 17* and 20 runs respectively.
