Here’s a brief look into a few matches which took place today in the Singer U19 Division I cricket Tournament.

Prince of Wales College vs Mahinda College

Vishva Chathuranga’s 146 helped POW to take the upper hand on day one of their Group B encounter against Mahinda College at Galle. The home side won the toss and opted to bowl first. They couldn’t create any trouble to the POW batters as they rattled along to a massive first innings total of 367 for 8 in just 59 overs. Skipper Vishva’s blistering innings was well supported by Thilan Nimesh who chipped in with a valuable 61.

At stumps on day 1, Mahinda was in a spot of bother at 54 for 3 in 36 overs.

De Mazenod College vs Thurstan College

Left arm spinner Naveen Gunawardane’s ten wicket haul helped Thurstan College register an innings and 59 run victory aagainst De Mazenod College. Thurstan resumed play at 203 for 4 and they went on to add 59 runs more before deciding to declare their innings. Charana Nanayakkara chipped in with a quick fire 51 in the morning session.

With more than half a day’s play left in the game, the boys from Kandana had an uphill task ahead of them. Naveen heroics with the ball did not let them do any better than their first innings. They lasted only 35.3 overs as the Thurstan bowling attack led by Naveen bundled out De Mazenod for just 103 runs. A convincing innings and 59 victory for the Thurstanites.
