Half centuries from Nimesh Lakshan and Sawan Prabash helped Thurstan to a 103 run lead against De Mazenod College in their Group D encounter of the Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament.
Thurstan were cruising at stumps on day 1 with 203 runs on board with 6 wickets intact. Nimesh Lakshan top scored with 85 runs unfortunately missing out on a well deserved century. He got good support from Sawan Prabash who scored 76 runs in quick succession. Ashen Fernando took 2 wickets for the boys from Kandana but their bowling lacked penetration which allowed Thurstan batters to score freely.
Early on, De Mazenod was asked to bat first and they cleaned up for just 100 runs in 35.5 overs. Imesh Dulshan and Naveen Gunawardane bagged four wickets each for the home side. Sangeeth Deshan top scored with 28 runs.
