Thurstan College Colombo hosted St. Benedict’s College Kotahena today in an inter school cricket match played at the Thurstan grounds

St. Benedict’s College Kotahena batting in their first innings managed to post a formidable 249 runs all out in 89.5 over’s. It was mainly due to the brilliant knock from their top order batsman Rumudu Kumarasinghe who top score3d with a fine knock of 71 runs. The visitors who were on top of the game going in to tea with 190 runs on the board for 5 wickets could not maintain composure as they only managed to accumulate 59 runs for the final 5 wicekts.

Thimira Jayasinghe was also middling the ball well ending his innings on 53 runs. The other batmen however could not come to terms with the bowling of Yohan Soyza who grabbed 3 wickets for 94 runs.

St. Benedict’s College Kotahena in their first innings with just 6 over’s to face ended the day on 10 runs for no loss.

It was a very slow approach by the home team having used up 89.5 over’s for 249 runs. It highlighted the need for a change of rules in inter school cricket to make it more result oriented rather than playing it for the sake of it. The schools athourities must have a look at this issue before schools cricket becomes mundane.
